Conditions for Adoption
To accomplish transfer of ownership, both ATRVA and the Adopter enter into a legal contract articulating the obligations and expectations of both parties. A complete copy of the contract is available on request.
Briefly, it covers:
POSSESSION:
The adopter pays a fee to ATRVA based on the dog’s age:
8 weeks – 5 years : $400
6- 9 years : $300
10+ years : $100
If the dog is returned to ATRVA within four weeks of ownership transfer, the fee will be refunded.
The dog is to be a house pet and companion.
The adopter agrees not to transfer ownership without the consent of ATRVA.
If the dog needs to be surrendered, the dog will be returned to ATRVA.
ATRVA is to be notified if the dog is lost or stolen.
The adopter assumes responsibility for any behavioral or veterinary issues of the dog while in his/her possession.
CARE:
Prior to adoption, ATRVA ensures that the dog has
o received all vaccinations,
o been tested, and treated, if necessary, for heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis and fecal parasites.
o been spayed or neutered.
o been microchipped.
If satisfied with the health of the dog at the time of transfer, the adopter agrees to assume all subsequent veterinary costs.
The adopter will provide safe and daily opportunities for exercise and regular veterinary care.
LICENSING AND IDENTIFICATION:
Within four weeks of acquisition, the adopter will obtain the required local license, provide an id tag, and register the microchip. ATRVA will provide temporary id tags for the interim.
FOLLOW-UP:
An Airedale Rescue volunteer will continue to be available for advice with behavioral or veterinary issues.
